Surviving Divorce - A program for children ages 8 - 18 years old

Our caring and compassionate staff are committed to creating a safe and positive environment for children to express their individuality. 

    This program will:

    • Assist children in understanding their new family structures
    • Address common myths and truths about separation and divorce
    • Investigate how children are feeling about their new family structure
    • Teach children skills to help them stay out of the middle in parental conflicts
    • Provide tools for children to ask for help when needed
    • Encourage children towards acceptance and moving forward in life
    • Provide literature sources geared toward children dealing with separation and divorce

    Topics covered are:

    • You and your family: Focuses on what constitutes and family and changes in family structures
    • Myths/Truths about divorce: Addresses commonly held beliefs of children and the realities of those situations
    • How divorce makes you feel: Focuses on feelings relating to changing family structures and experiences for children in similar situations
    • Getting out of the middle: Teaches effective communication skills for avoiding being in the middle of parental conflict
    • Asking for help: Address appropriate sources of help and strategies for attaining assistance
    • Changing Thoughts/Activities: Introduces children to positive thinking and ways to address feelings
    • Self talk: Teaches steps to identifying and accepting feelings, making a plan to address necessary changes and implementing plans
    • Getting on with life: Encourages positive acceptance and moving forward in life
